Om Meditation
John 1:1: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

It is said that in the beginning, the sound caused a vibration, and the sound was Om.

Creation itself was set in motion by the vibration of this sound.
The vibration produced by any chanting of the word Om, corresponds to the original vibration sounded at the time of creation.

The word Om means;
That which sustains life and runs through the breath.

OM is considered to be the Universal sound - linking all life forms in its vibration.

Because the chanting of Om sends such a tangible sensation throughout the entire body, it assists greatly in removing unwanted thoughts and other distractions as well as, stimulating pent-up energy within our physical bodies. From my own experience, I find I am more energized, strong, centered and connected.

The understanding of what the word represents (the Universal sound), when we chant OM -  there is a feeling of connectivity to all other life forms. The rhythmic pronunciation of the word helps
to establish a more serene and focused mind.

This meditation is very helpful when dealing with feelings of depression or low energy. For this practice the pronunciation is:

A-U-M

Sit upright in a comfortable position.
Keep the spine straight but not rigid.
(Especially in the beginning, sitting in a chair is recommended)

Mentally check that your body (from head to toe) is relaxed and comfortable. This is important so the mind does not get caught with any physical discomfort in the body. I like to close my eyes as it diminishes distractions by the physical environment.

Turn your attention to your breathing:

Observe the breath coming in through the nostrils
- feel the sensation
- hear whatever sounds it makes,

feel the stomach expand to accommodate the air.

On the exhale, enunciate each letter separately and evenly and in sync with the time it takes for the breath to completely leave your body.

A - U - M

FOCUS
on the vibration the sound makes in your throat and throughout your body.

Continue to inhale and repeat A-U-M on the exhale.

Try and become familiar with the rhythm of this particular practice.

Be aware of any new sensations this exercise activates in you however, be mindful that you do not get into the habit of passing judgments about it. Your intention is to merely observe.
